I have been researching my family for about 3 years now and have found out quite a bit about them. There's still loads more to do though

I've just come across this site and thought I'd join you - I might even be able to help someone (or more likely will need someone to help me )

I noticed you are from Northampton. Where abouts? I was born there many,many years ago, but have lived in Australia since I was a little tacker so I don't remember anything about the area.

I've lived in and around Northampton since 1965 - I was born in Leicestershire. At the moment I live in a small village called Cogenhoe - about 4 miles outside of Northampton.

If you want any photos of the Northampton area I will be pleased to take some for you

I've just noticed that one of the names you are researching is Tebbutt - is this name from around Northampton because my husband's maternal family are Tebbutts, his grandfather was a shoe manufacturer in the town in the early 20th century

Hi Margaret,

I would love some photos of Northampton. I was born in Kettering in 1957. My mum used to live down the road from "Althorp" though she wasn't born in the area.

My Grandmother was Elsie Olive Tebbutt B 1893 in Kettering
Her parents were George Tebbutt B 1855 in Earls Barton & Emma Freeman B 1856 in Earls Barton.

Elsie Olive Married Sidney Robert Sanders in 1916 in Kettering they had 1 son Harold Sidney ( my dad) she died in 1946.
The Tebbutts do seem to be mostly around the Northampton area I have managed to trace back to 1818 and they are all in the area & shoe manufacturing was the major occupations of a lot I have found.
If you know your husbands Tebbutt links let me know & I will see if we match anywhere.
I also know of a man who has done a one name study of the Tebbutt name he was invaluable in helping me find my Tebbutts.

Hi Peta,

I have some information on my husband's Tebbutts - they were quite straightforward to research because as you say there were plenty of them in this area. I will sort out what I have and post it up in a few days time (I am going away for a few days tomorrow but will do it when I get back). Unfortunately, my husband isn't interested in Family History - hard to believe I know - so I've only tinkered with his family :biggrin:

Is there anywhere in particular that you would like photographed? I can do some in Kettering too if you like Again I will do this when I get back - probably some time next week (the photos that is, I'll be back home on Saturday :biggrin: )

Hi Margaret,

:2fun: my husbands interested in family history as long as he doesn't have to do the work. Funny thing is he found a web site that lists all Australians who served in WW2 & he spent a good hour searching for family names. He found that his own father had served in the reserves for 2 yrs & no one knew.

Where to take photos? Mmmm will have to think on that. Some around Kettering would be good. Wicksteads Park, We lived at 27 Weekley Glebe Rd, & dad lived at 335 Windmill Ave when he was a lad. Northampton is such a big area now & I don't really know much about the other areas.

I know of some Tebbutts in the Market Harborough area,Any link there?
Was at Wicksteed park 3weeks ago changed a lot over the years but still good fun!

Hi Kim welcome to the forums

Most of my Tebbutts were born in the Earls Barton & Kettering area.
Is that anywhere near Market Harborough. If you give me some names I can check what I have.

I have some photos of me as a toddler in Wicksteeds. Playing on the playground & riding a model train they had there. This is going back to 1958-59 mind you. I hear those things have gone now.

Margaret Hello,
My name is Marion and I am very new to this site joining a couple of days ago so I am still trying to find my way around. I have been reading all the posted threads on Leicestershire and my attention was drawn to the fact that you were born there. Margaret I am trying to trace my Ancestors that came from Loughborough I believe but I am not possitive on this one. I have tried to find out if there is an On Line Parish Clerk for the area but nothing can be found. I did come across one site but it was being up graded so nothing gained on that one either. Can you offer any suggestions please Margaret as I have been searching for three years and have uncovered nothing. Later my Ancestors may have moved to Surrey? Their surname was Ackley.
