Hi to everyone out here! I have just joined this site in hopes of finding more about my great great grandparents and more about where they came from which will, I hope turn into a trip back to Scotland to see for myself where they came from.
I am at a roadblock once my research got back to Scotland, as records are more difficult for me to find there. If anyone out here can help I would be much appreciative!

James Kennedy and Margaret Martin Walker Kennedy married in Old Monkland Parrish in 1851/52? James was a puddler at Calderbank Works. I believe they left Scotland in 1868 on the Arcadia bound for the US.
I have different census info for Margaret's birth but family record shows 1831-11-22 and James was born in Ireland and I don't know when he went to Scotland.
Happy to be here and hope to find some clues :)

Hello and welcome to FHUK

Please have a look around the forums and then post your queries in the most appropriate ones and someone will try to answer them.

Good luck with your research.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Heather, & welcome

Scotlandspeople web site, is where you need to search, but you'll need to purchase credits.

I have 3 credits, and the basic information is that, James Kennedy married Margaret Walker, 19 May 1850 @ OLD MONKLAND OR COATBRIDGE, Lanark.

1 credit for basic info, plus 5 credits to view the original.

The search was between 1850 & 1854.

I have insufficient credits to view the original marraige, or original census returns.

According to the transcribed 1851 & 1861 Scotland census, Margaret Kennedy(nee.Walker) was born c1831, Old Monkland. James Kennedy was born c1826/1827 Ireland.

Children. from the 1861 Scottish census.

James. c1851. Old Monkland.
Jane. c1852. Old Monkland.
Margaret. c1854. Old Monkland.
Mary. c1857. Old Monkland.
Agnes. c1860. Motherwell.

Thank you p.risboy for the information, I was able to go to the website and find those documents. Any suggestion though on a document that I may find listing Margaret Kennedy's parents? This is where I am really stuck. I do not have much hope on the James Kennedy side as finding a James Kennedy with just a birth date is pretty impossible I am going to guess.

DaveHam9 and leefer thank you for the welcome!

Go back to Scotlandspeople, and do a search for Margaret Walker c1831, Old Monkland.
IF you are lucky, she may be the only baptism to be found.:)

I used my last single credit, and found this transcription.........

25/10/1829. WALKER, MARGARET YEATS. JOHN WALKER/CHRISTIAN MATHESON FR413 (FR413) F OLD MONKLAND OR COATBRIDGE /LANARK.

You'll need to look at the original for yourself, and see what else can be gleaned from it. Age is 2 years out(which isn't a worry), but the only one I could find from 1829 to 1833 in Old Monkland.
