I've been researching my family tree for some years now and have only just found this site by searching for information on the Boer War as my Grandfather was in the Inniskilling Fusiliers 3rd Battalion.
I didn't think I'd ever end up researching military history, but I've found it fascinating, and sometimes a bit frustrating.
Finding my Grandfather's WW1 service record was a real breakthough, but I knew he had also been in South Africa in 1900. What I didn't expect was all the variants of his surname Mackell!
Before I go heading off to Kew, to start ploughing through the records I thought I'd do some research to find out some more details which is why I'm here.
So here's hoping!
