Hi all, I'm Chris and I have been doing this on and off for about 3 years. I am mainly researching my dad's family, with my mum's family as a second "offshoot" at present. Names I am looking at at the moment include Wheelhouses from initially Killamarsh, then Norton Derbyshire and Leeds, Greenhough from Bradford and Leeds, Dickinson from initially Knaresborough and Leeds, Hall from Wetherby and finally my greatest bugbear, Chadwick from between Malta and Corfu ! (He is a story in himself -trust me!!).

I have got back as far as 1697 with my wheelhouse family in Killamarsh but cannot get any further back - any help on that would be most appreciated

Hi Chris

welcome to the FHUK forums.

If you post a request with your 1697 Wheelhouse ancestors brickwall on one of the lookup boards then we shall do our best to help you.

Hi Chris,

My grandmother was a Wheelhouse, and the family (as far back as I can trace it) comes from Beighton in Derbyshire (John Wheelhouse was born there in about 1817). Do you have a family tree online somewhere that I can take a peek at to see if there's a connection?

Thanks,

Ian.

Hi there Beery, I am really sorry this has taken so long to answer, I am quite a bit further along now.

There is definitely a connection between your John Wheelhouse and my Wheelhouse family. My common ancestor is Samuel Wheelhouse (my great grandad x 5), who is John Wheelhouse's father, my great x 4 grandad is William, who is John's brother, William was born in 1799.

This probably makes us 4th or 5th cousins I think ?

Do you know the story of Samuel ? it makes extremely good reading :)
