Hello everyone. I'm living between Yorkshire and Galloway - in south west Scotland - at the moment until my husband retires, when we'll move back to Scotland full-time.

I have 4 adult children; only my baby (23) is still at home from time to time, when she's back from university. I trek round Scotland visiting them during the year, and we meet in Galloway for birthdays, Christmas, and other special occasions. Although I've been in Galloway for 30 years or so, Lanarkshire was my birthplace and I was a journalist in a previous existence - I still do a bit of writing. I have a dog and cats, I love music, reading, walking - and talking. General interests are animal welfare, poetry, politics, human rights, and chocolate.

One of my aunts did a little bit of research a few years ago, so I have a few starting points. I really don't know where to go next, so may be looking for lots of (very basic!) help.

Hi Blantyrelass

welcome

You can get lots of help but you need to start with what you know and go backwards from there. See how much you can find out from your family and plot it down and we can then see where you need your help. See you soon

Hi, and a warm welcome .

If you have any of yours and parents marriage and birth certs, they are a good place to start.
As said before, gather as much info as you can from your older living rellies.

If you have any queries, please put them in the relevant forums with as much information that you have.

Good luck with your research.
