Hellp me find Esther Pearce

I'm having difficulty tracing my Great grandmother Esther Pearce Born Dec. 1883 in Parsonstown Ireland

From what I can establish she was married three times in the following order
1- Thomas James
2 - Walter Harry Richards
3 - James A Tapp

Ivy Doreen her daughter, my grandmother (1905-1973), her birth Cert, indicates that she was born in Wales, the father was William Harry Richards and the mother Esther Richards formerly Pearce. That's not a problem, or is it?

In the 1911 Census, it shows Esther was married to Thomas James who was a Stoker Royal Naval Reserve, married for ten years and her daughters also listed were Ivy Doreen James and Winifred Irene James (1910-1991). Living at College Place Southampton

I have found a 1902 Oct.marriage for Esther to William Harry Richards in Alverstoke, Hampshire.

I have extensive details of my family history, but the particular one is very confusing and I seem to be hitting a brick wall.

I have in the past had a lot of help from you all, can that happen again!!

This maybe Esther's death registration.

1973 - Jan/Feb/Mar - District Southampton

Esther Tapp - Birth date 27 Oct 1883

Theres also a death registration for a James A Tapp in 1962 - Southampton - Born about 1877

If Thomas was away in the 1911 census (his name is crossed out meaning he wasn't there at the time)perhaps Esther was talking about how long she had been married but not just to Thomas. I think she married William Harry Richard first and then Thomas. I did find a marriage for a Mabel E Pearce in 1910 in Wandsworth and one of the possible spouses is Thomas James but as she would probably marry under the name of Richards prob not the right one. I see also she has had 4 children in total but 2 had died.

The Esther who married James A Tapp married under the surname Richards, not James. So did she marry Thomas?

Maybe something or not. Have come across a William Pearce born (BIR) Ireland, same place as Esthers in 1911. His mother is Louisa she was born abt 1864 Portsmouth Hampshire. There maybe a connection.

Do you have Winifred's birth certificate, Ron?

I think William died or maybe changed his name. William married Esther in 1902. (She would have been about 16 so not much time to have already been married before) Ivy was born 1906 as a Richards. Winifred born 1910 as a James and recorded on 1911 with mother and Ivy as James. Esther then married James Tapp in 1913 as a Richards. There doesn't seem to be a marriage record for Esther and Thomas James.

So in the 1991 census she was talking about her marriage in 1902 to William and perhaps never married Thomas at all? I had toyed with the fact that she could have married again between Wm and Thomas but as Julie says she married in 1913 as Richards it looks unlikely.

I just knew you guys would be able to help.

Unfortunately I dont have many details at all from this section of my family, only my grandmothers birth/death cert., and of course family photo's, one of which is detailed enough to give me images of Esther and the Tapp family at a wedding.

Thanks again for these details, I'll work them into my tree and see where I get.

Another little family conundrum

We as a family have always been told that my grandmother Ivy's father Walter Harry Richards went down on the Titanic tragedy in 1912.

Did He though.........

Having searched the Titanic crew lists and persons lost he not listed.

So is this a family myth!

There is list a Harry Richards, a stoker/Fireman who address was 25 Summer Street, Northam, Southampton, this happens to be the same as William Harry Richards.
So did he drop the William when he joined Titanic and was listed as just Harry Richards.

If you could locate a birth for this person that would help.

You can see the problem I have been having.

I couldn't see a Harry Richards on the Titanic list but did spot a Thomas James Fireman/Stoker - Hometown Southampton

A Joseph James Richards age 29 of 25 Summer Street Northam Southampton - Fireman appears on the Titanic list as lost.

The family living at 25 Summers Street Northam Southampton in 1911 are a Harry and Ellen Jones (sister Florence) and children Dorothy and Leslie, also Joe Richard(s) nephew - age 1mth.

There are several Parsonstown locations in Ireland, but the birt cert will reveal which one.

H Richards is listed on the Crew Signing On List Engineering Book 3,

Sorry my mistake the address was 33 College Street Southampton.

Not sure at this stage who Joseph James Richards is or if he's connected at this stage.
