Hi there kazz, firstly have you looked on http://www.genuki.org.uk/to see where the parish records are? it should give you quite a bit of info. Look for a county records office in essex - quite a few parish registers from the area may well be deposited there I would suggest you look on Hugh wallis IGI site but it seems to have disapeared. but you could also check the free reg site on http://freereg.rootsweb.com/. Also could his parents still be alive on the 1841 census? it may be worth checking for other Agar's in the area.

I have just looked in the 1841 census for Agar's there seems to be two possibles - the first one is Park lane Ramsden Bellhouse - RG - HO107/322/19/pg8
Dodson James 35 essex
" Elizabeth 33 essex
" Laban 5 "
" William 8m "
Agar Sarah age 63 born 1778 essex
Harvey Mary age 10 essex

no 2 -
William Agar age 60 born 1781 essex
Sarah " age 50 born 1791 essex
Sarah May age 8 essex

address Coopers Cottages
Little Burstead
RG HO107/32/3/pg1
this is perhaps at least one of the parents if not both, hope it helps. Looked for James on the BIVRI and also IGI but couldn't find him.

Hi Kazz

This looks like your family on the 1851 census:
Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece: 1774; Folio: 451; Page: 7;

Remember though that the ages on the 1841 census are rounded down.

The 1851 census says that James is aged 40 (so born c1811) and that he was born in Great Burstead.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Re: help! befor the census :)

Their son Charles Ager was born in JFM 1839 in the Braintree district.

If you got his birth certificate it would give you his mother's maiden name and you could then make sure you have the correct marriage for his parent's when you find it. :)
