Hi there

I hope somone can help Im tracing my 3x grt Grandparents
Jane Hamer and Thomas Ashworth
I sent off for the marriage cert to find out who Janes Father was thinking that I would be able to find out who he married ect ect

His name was Thomas Hamer and he was a weaver
His daughter Jane Married Thomas Ashworth 19th June 1858 at St Johns Parish church Preston
She was born 1836

But Im struggling to find Thomas Hamer
As Jane married in Preston would that be where she came from ?
As I cant find any Thomas Hamers from Preston
And if the fathers name is on the marriage cert would he still be alive ?
or if he had died would it say deceased ?

Hope theres not to many questions
Jackey

Hi Jackie

Would this be them in the 1841 Census? Father Thomas age 30, Mother Ellen 40, Jane 4 born Lancashire, Civil Parish Childwall Hundred, West Derby, County Lancashire Reg Dist Prescot, Sub reg Dist Much Woolton ?

Hi Gwenythgreen

Great minds Ive just found this myself Its the only one I can find with a Thomas who has Jane as a daughter
on the original it says he is a saddler
I wonder if this his him how he ended up a weaver ?
will follow him through to the next census

Thanks
Jackey

well the plot thickens on the 1851 census it says he is a Sadler and Inn keeper and born in Yorkshire ?

On the 1861 he is a labourer at a bleach works and living in Bolton
the birth years are not the same on any of the census I know thats not unusual
Ellen Hamer(thomas's wife) seems to range from 1801 to 1816

Still very unsure not sure where to go from here

Still having trouble with Thomas Hamer

Its more about the jobs he had if Im folowing the correct one in 1841 he is a Sadler
In 1851 hes a sadler and an inn keeper so I would have thought that he would have lived in a inn but he lives in a ordinary house
In 1861 he is working in a bleach works
however on his daughters marriage cert in 1858 it says he was a weaver
Im so confused

But he is the only Thomas married to Ellen with a daughter called Jane that I can find

Im even more confused now

I found a marriage between a Thomas Hamer and a Ellen Lowe
1 Jan 1835 Hurray i thought

Then just thought Iwould go over the census's again

And ther seems to be 2 Thomas and Ellen Hamers

One Ellen has a birth year c1816 and the other one has a birth year c 1804 it is the latter that has a Jane Hamer 1836 with them in 1841
so Im assuming this is them
Just cant find any record of this Thomas and Ellen

Oh well back to drawing board
