Hi Chris

I have had a look through the usual sources but not found much.

Family Search submitted entry

John Davig born circa 1763 Bolton. Yorkshire
married Dinah Hattersley 25 March 1788, she was born 1767 circa at Ecclesfield.

It sounds as if a trip up to Yorkshire to view the Parish Records may be in order, if you have not already done so . There may be someone on here who has the records on a CD if they have been made available through the Family History Society for the area. It is well worth joining the Local FHS.

hi nainmaddie.
thank you for reply, now where to start?
the record on family search is not accurate ,i did inform them last year of this ,but?? some of the details are correct ie; he did marry DINAH HATTERSLEY in Sheffield 1788,witnesses her father and the church warden.
He died in 1792 before JOHN his second son was born ,DINAH DAVIDGE then went back to Sheffield from Ringley Lancs, she went on to have 2 more children MARY and another son ,now the question is his birth .
I had last year spoken on the phone to the current Warden of St Saviours Ringley ,he looked in an old record book he has and could find nothing ,apparently all the gravestones were moved many years ago to another site .Interesting thing is John was a paper maker and i would have thought he would have to have done an apprenticeship ?but i have found nothing as yet ,anyway if you can think of anything else please let me know.
Another thing i did was hire the microfiche for BMDs for Ringley 1701-1801,but 1762-1770 were virtually unreadable ,but i did find WILLIAM bn1790 and JOHN 1792,many thanks Chris:) :) :) welcome
