Hi all,

As in my earlier posts elsewhere I am researching the name Shaw. If in 1869 (21st Feb.) a family left England to come to New Zealand, this was an assisted passage, is it possible to acquire personal details from papers they may have had to fill out to apply for this assistance. Is there some govt. department that may have this sort of info. or archives in England. Thank you

Thank you for that, I have to say here I find you very knowledgeable. Yes as you say Canterbury had a lot of English people coming out there. I tried our own national archives for much the same thing and was told it would cost me at least one hundred dollars for them to look but it wasn't at our end I would get such info, however will try what you have quoted. Thanks

Might be something here or on another page.

https://atojs.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/atojs?a=d&d=AJHR1873-I.2.2.3.11

and here possibly - page 6 Canterbury

I searched for "New Zealand assisted immigration deposit journals"

They exist for some passengers to NSW so some may exist for NZ.
WOW!! what a great lot of info I got reading that, in my defence again lol I did ask the archives if they could furnish me with such info but didn't know what to call them (left out the words "Deposit Journals") hence me getting in touch with our national library as opposed to the archves, however I haven't heard back from them yet. Heres one hundred dollars in thanks.
