Help Please - brick wall!! - Frank Leslie Bennett

Hello all,

I was hoping that someone could please help me find a relative in my family tree.

I am looking for records for a Frank Leslie Bennett (b1911, Kent, England). It would appear from documents I have that he was in the Canadian Army in 1951 (presumably before and after this date) but was in England at this time. He had a wife in Canada that he married in 1933 in Quebec and had 2 children by. I am really desperate to find records of him going to Canada and coming back to England.

I presume that as Canada has the British Queen as the head of state that this is why he could enlist in the Canadian Army even though he was English. I am desperate to find any records other than his birth, UK 1911 Census and marriage in 1933. If anyone could help me I would be hugely grateful.

Thank you

Re: Help Please - brick wall!!

Thank you very much Dave, that is very useful. Is it possible to find out if any other Bennetts travelled with him as this seems very young to travel on his own to Canada.

Re: Help Please - brick wall!!

Hi

It would appear he travelled with other persons of the roughly same age, like some sort of assisted passage to young men, not his family. There were 20 between 15 and 17 in this party, all farming except Frank who was a scholar

Re: Help Please - brick wall!!

Thanks again, I'll have to see what else I can find out about a possible move from Dartford to Birmingham. Would also like to see if I can find a death record, either in Canada or the UK (if there is one - could still be alive but he'd be about 101!).

Re: Help Please - brick wall!!

Hi Rachel :)
In the census taken 10yrs after 1901, there is a Frank Leslie Bennett 3months old born Erith Kent.
107 Manor Rd Erith sub division of Dartford.
He's with his parents (married 8 yrs) and 4 siblings and is the only one bn Erith, rest bn Dartford so they must have moved recently.
Free BMD have the birth in 1st qtr 1911 Dartford rego.
If you would like more info please let me know, perhaps you may know of any other names in the family to confirm?
Cheers
Tinam
fmp have quite a few Franks going to Canada.
I'm wonder why he would leave from Liverpool and not Southampton?
Just a thought.
We need to find him in Canadian census.

Hi Rach
You say he was back in the uk. Have you a date and place?

What part of Hull are you from? I was born Cottingham but lived in Willerby

dave
Hi Dave,

I'm not entirely sure when he came back to the UK but I know for definite he fathered a child (later adopted out) in 1951 in Surrey. Apparently he was in the Canadian Army.

I am not originally from the Hull area, I was born in Norwich. Live in Beverley now with my partner.

Thanks oznannie,

I actually have the 1911 census data, it was mainly the Canadian side of things I was particularly interested in. The only definite info I have on him is his birth and the 1911 Census. I have information on some adoption records but they only say that he was a sergeant (I think he was a sergeant without consulting buried records) in the Canadian Army.

Thank you for looking for information for me though.

Hiya Rachel
You have to wonder what Frank was doing in Surrey in 1951 with the Canadian Army?
Let's hope one of our members may have some clues.

Hi rachk116

I am a daughter of Frank Leslie Bennett and have the information you are looking for. I have copies of birth certificates, marriage certificate and death certificate. Not sure how to proceed from here to get this info to you.

Hi Gibbo
Thanks. So by replying to a post does me communicating with you count as a post or do I have to start a new post.
Thanks for you help with this as I'm struggling to find my way around this website.
