I'm trying to find out about a bigamist who married my Grandma in 1939. He used the name Clifton Peter Scott-Riddle on the cert and claimed that his father was an MP. Can anyone help with his real name or news reports from the time. He was arrested, charged and convicted.

Hi Elly, my Grandma was Ivy Lee from Birmingham. his alleged name was Clifton Peter Scott-Riddle. He came from Lambeth, London and was 30 at the time. They married at Birmingham Register Office (I have that cert). The date was 18th March 1939. Then my Grandma got pregnant but by this time (May) he had gone back to London. When she followed him he had gone leaving rent owing on his flat. Later the police visited her in Birmingham and told her he was already married. He was convicted but no-one in the family seems to know any more than that. My Dad passed away 13 years ago and Grandma is also no longer with us. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still looking for info about Clifton Peter Scott-Riddle who bigamously married my Grandma Ivy Lee on 18th March 1939 at Birmingham Register Office. He quickly disappeared afterwards but my Grandma gave birth to my Dad later that year so this man would be my biological Grandfather. Please can anyone shed any light on newpaper reports from the time or divorce records as the marriage must have been annulled. Any help greatly appreciated.

May be worth a try of looking through newspapers . I would think that something like that would have got a mention in a newspaper.
