Help with Cain Family Tree

Hi, I wonder if someone could help me with the Cain family tree.

I have hit a brick wall with the following people.

James Cain ~1852 Born in Ireland
Ellen Cain ~ 1852 Born in Ireland

They had a son called Henry Cain who was born 27th February 1887 in Widnes (registered Prescot) who is my 2nd Great Grandfather. As well as other children according to the census they are Alice, Annie, James, John.

I know Ellen's Maiden name is "Robinson" from Henry Cains birth certificate.

I know James had a brother called Patrick who was born in ~1840 as he lived with James/Ellen in the 1901 Census in Widnes.

They appear in Widnes in 1881, 1891, 1901 Census but I have no idea how to trace them further. I am unsure where in Ireland they originated from and none of my family know either. I have tried searching for their marriage both in the UK and Ireland to no avail, although I am a novice

Any help or pointers would be very much appreciated.

In the census after 1901.

James Cain c1855. Ahacragh, Galway. (Publican).
Ellen Cains c1855. Ferns, Co.Wexford.
Henry Cains c1887. Widnes. (House painter).
Patrick Cain c.1841. Ahacragh, Galway. (Boarder). Labourer in Chemical Industry.

Living at 40-42 Wellington St. Widnes, Lancs.

That should help a wee bit.

Thankyou very much for that information on their origins I am sure that will help me out massively pinpointing them.

I have searched the 1901 Census on Ancestry for the past week looking for additional information.

If you dont mind me asking where was you able to obtain their origins?

Ferns is easy to find in County Wexford. And it's Ahascragh in County Galway.

Ahascragh is about 12 miles west of Athlone.

Google maps bring both places up.

Small villages, so you could well be very lucky.

Anyone got any experience tracing irish ancestors? I have searched James Cain / Ellen Robinson using the below county information with no joy .

Either the registration districts are different or im missing something?

Could it be that they never registered? I am not sure of the BMD registration in ireland.

Most of my ancestors are from Ireland and finding them is tough!

In 1881, James Cain gives his age as 30. So born circa 1851.

That would make the marriage Gortonboy found in 1870 Dublin, extremely feasable.

If his year of birth was 1855, it would be less so.

Alice Cain was born c1872, Ireland. So that adds up even better.

I would hazard a guess, Alice was born in Dublin.

Dromiskin is north of Dublin, near Dundalk.
