hi
i have been using this site to help me find infomation for family trees for people i kno exsisted. (to which members of this site have been immensley helpful and generous with there time :) )

This is the question iam stuck on, how do i find info on people i dont kno about??.
for example;

samuel herbert thorn born yiewsley middlesex 1897

how would i go about finding out how many children he had?. whom he married?, and when and where he died .

this is where i get stumped the 1911 census would be the best place i hear you say. but this would be to early i think the info i need would need the 1921 or 1931 which havnt been released yet .
Am i also right in thinking the 1931/2 census was destroyed bya bomb in the war?.
help stuck

Hello,

It's not easy at all finding families from 1910 onwards.

This is a possibility:

Marriages Jun 1919
Boyce Edith W Thorn Windsor 2c 1410
Thorn Samuel H Boyce Windsor 2c 1410

Births Dec 1923
Thorn Margery D G - Boyce Windsor 2c 711
Births Jun 1927
Thorn William S P - Boyce Windsor 2c 707
Births Dec 1929
Thorn Avrie E J - Boyce Windsor 2c 670

Regards,

Dave

It is very difficult to find and authenticate this type of information. BMD registers are useful but you would still need to back this up with certificates or information from Parish Registers.
You are also correct that the 1931 census records were destroyed, although I do not know if this was complete or if something survived. As no census was taken in 1941 there will be a long wait after 1921 until 1951 becomes available.

One way I have used is A......y

They have transcribed all births, marriages & deaths for 1916 - 2005.

I can tell you how if you like. I access Ancestry at the County Records Office or the Library.
