Hi

I have the marraige certificate (New Zealand) for John William Johnstone-Gordon, he was born in 1875 in Pert, Scotland. The marraige cert states that his parents are:-
John William Johnstone-Gordon, Occupation Gentleman
Mary Jane Johnstone-Gordon nee Gordon

I have still been unable to find any details online about this family when they lived in Scotland, can anyone help??

Hi Smee
I have used Scotlands people website, and failed miserably with John William.
It will not allow me to put in double barrelled surname !
Mary Jane Gordon, there are 14 between 1875 -1880. Have you any ideas where she came from? Then I could eliminate a few of them.
It doesn't help when all the children in the country are all on the Internet slowing it down to the point of stopping . Arrgh !

Thanks everyone

Will look at the websites, i have only got the information given on the marriage sheet, i don't even know if my John William was the eldest child as i don't know when his parents married, and what huge families they had in those days, i do have a feeling that he was the first son due to him sharing his fathers name.

Thanks again

Claire
