Hi, new here and new too all this family search. As told in presentation my English is rusty because I'm from Denmark, but my relatives on my grandmothers side is English, North England and maybe Scotland too.
I was told to make a new thread and ask for help and informations about what I know, so here it goes.
My Grandmothers name was Beatrice May Sheppard Born in New Castle Upon Tyne ( Elswick) in 1919 26. september, Married in 1945 too Jens Viggo Bagge, In New Castle. They moved to Denmark around 1960 when my mother was about 14 years old.
Beatrice had siblings: Dorris ( married name Lettin) , Rueben, Arthur and Standley maybe married a Doris Armstrong.
My grandmothers father was Samuel Richard Sheppard, Born in Birmingham 1879 or 1880, on the married registrations attest he is born 1879 but on the war papirs he is born 18. jan 1880. Royal Navy registers number 183946
I can't find Samuels parents name or siblings but I was told that his mother maybe was jewish from east europa. I haven't found anything about that and maybe she even was wife number two to Samuels's father, but thats not confirmed.
Samuel married Augusta Jones in 1908 in Kings Norton I think maybe she had a middlename. She was a tailor, many in the family was a tailor.
Augusta Jones ( new name was Augusta Sheppard) some places she is registed with Jones as middelname.
Augusta was born in 1878 Kings Norton, Worcestershire and on the birth records only her mothers maiden name is written and it is MacPherson. I can't find anything about Augustas mother, but the story goes, that her name maybe was Anne or Anna or even it was her middelname, but I don't know if that is correct or maybe missing a middle name or something. But Augustas mother or grandmother had worked on Edinburgh Castle so that must be my great great grandmother. One of them must have lived and born in Scotland.
Samuel and Augusta moved to Islington , I don't know when, but there deaths registrations is there and I think Samuel Died 1956 and Augusta 1952.
Augusta had at sibling ( maybe 6 ) maybe one brother called Edwin W Jones but one sister was Clara Ann Jones born 1871 I think and my search find that she married a Martin Joseph Callaghan and had a son called Bernard Callaghan born 1899.
I think that was it, my biggest issue is that every time I find a birth or death registration there is on the right side some numbers. for example vol 6 page 885, what does that mean? And of cause it is so exciting to find out if my great great grandmother was scottish and from MacPherson clan.
I'm going to England ( London) this summer and to Scotland- Edinburgh later to find out of someting, is there some places that I can look for informations?
So any small tricks or guide to how I search correct or even help to find our more would be a gift.
Regards
