Henderson from Wick, Caithness

HENDERSON At Sibster Burn, Halkirk on the 24th inst, Sinclair Campbell, relict of James Henderson, Kilmster, Wick. American and Australian papers please copy.

James and Sinclair had several children in Kilmster, Wick

John 1868, Elizabeth 1870, James 1873, George 1881, William 1883, Margaret 1885, Donald 1887 and Annie 1890

I know what happened to Donald as he is my line and Annie I have found married to David Malcolm and dying in Edinburgh in 1961 but can anyone help me find some of the older children who were supposed to have gone to Australia. Obviously some may have gone to America. I have looked at Trove but not finding anything whereas I thought perhaps the copy of the Northern Ensign might be in an Australian paper somewhere for a clue?

This is a likely death for John, they were in Somerville in 1910 and Annie is there in 1920..

The reason i asked earlier if the kids had second names is there supposedly a James Sinclair Henderson in VIC. His wife died in 1903. The article has James S Henderson but someone has tagged it as James Sinclair Henderson. Might not even be a connection but could be worth a look at. No age is given to help.

Residence was named "Bridge of Allan" so that indicates a Stirling origin.

I have exact dates of birth for them all if it helps at all and no word on middle names Gibbo but will re check.

thanks Geoff, I now have Donald, my husbands direct line, Annie and John. Sure some of the others will turn up somehow. There were Davids in the family a generation back but he died in Montrose Asylum so not sure if they would carry the name down or not.

There are so many of them in the ships it is so hard to tie them down. The biggest clue should be Sinclair but they don't 'seem to be using the naming patterns, customs had changed by then, i suppose.

I wonder how many Australians know their Henderson came from Scotland but not where and would love to know that they are part of this family. Sad.

Very difficult Barbara without knowing what state in Australia. A copy of that notice was the clue needed.

No deaths in NSW or Qld. to 1984 with mother = Sinclair.

No will for Sinclair (Sinclairina was her proper name) nor her husband James. They were very poor crofters I would think and thus all their children moved to find work. As Sinclairina died away from the family home at Kilmster I must look and see if I can find who was living there around that time. Maybe another child?

Never mind, something will appear and I will find them eventually.

I checked the Australian military records as the boys would have been the age to join up for WW1. Even tho there are a few with the same name born in Scotland none seem to fit, wrong father's name for next of kin, age way out etc.
