Henry Furniss was born in 1833 in Sheffield Yorkshire and married Mary Ann Strother in 1855, i have all family details from that time on till 1911 which belive me is VERY complex :(. What i can't find are anything to do with him or his parents etc in either the 1841 or 1851 census.
Any help appreciated.

Familysearch has two possible baptisms for a Henry Furniss, both in Stannington which is a suburb of Sheffield.

Henry Furniss 1832 parents George and Ann

Henry Furniss 1833 parents Thomas and Mary

In 1861 Henry's age is given as 34, i.e. born 1827 . He and Mary Ann are living next door to :-

Alfred Furniss ,55, warehouseman, b Sheffield
Susannah Furniss, 54, b Derbyshire Gleadless

Alfred is the name of Henry & Susannah's eldest son so possible relationship?

Have found Alfred & Susannah in 1851 but no children with them. Can't find them in 1841.
Still working on it !

Thanks you stockpot but you have the WRONG Henry.
My Henry is born 1833 and living (in 1861) with 1st wife Mary Ann (Strouther) and children George, William, Susan & Charles. He then re married to her sister (following Mary's death in 1863) Caroline in 1865.

Yes, sorry about that, I realised later that the Henry I had been looking at had too many children to have married in 1855.
Good luck with finding the real Henry !

Elaine
PS who is his father on his marriage certificates?

I can't find him in 1851 but on the 1841 Census HO107/1338/F13 there is a 9 yr old Henry Furniss as a pupil at the Boys Charity School, Sheffield.

Thank you Emeltee. If this is correct i think it may be difficult to find his parents/family as the Boys Charity School was apparently part of the Bluecoat schools and, at that time, took in mainly pupils from what are now called "one parent families". If that is the case it's going to take another piece of info to find them.

Do you have him in the 1861 Census? Was he living at Gillots Yard Sing Hill under the name Robert Henry Furniss? If so then in 1851 he is the Henry Furniss living with parents George and Elizabeth,. The ref is HO107/2335/F199/p6
