I am trying to locate the Labour Corps battalion of my maternal grandfather Henry McFadyen, whose MIC shows his number as 5676. I am unable to travel to Kew and wondered if anyone could search this for me.

His dates are 1881-1943, born at 107 Kirk Street, Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

His MIC also lists service in the RSF with the number 37995 and I am looking for this battalion information as well.

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Trebor,

A warm welcome to FHUK.

I had a look on the Ancestry site who have the online service records for WW1, but nothing came up for your Henry. Quite a few of the records where destroyed in WW2 so its possible his where amongst them. :)

My Grandfather is listed as Pte - which I guess is Private ... looks like a lost cause I'm afraid. Shame.

Thanks anyway for taking the time to reply.

I couldnt find any info on my great great uncle from the boer war. we just had a name and that he had been in the sherwood foresters. i wrote to the sherwood forester museum in chilwell and we got back a small amount of info on him, but it had his army number, that he had been wounded and that he forfeited his medals due to desertion. i suggest maybe trying some war museums, i have found them to quiet helpful, if they dont have any info for what you are looking for most will advice where to write to.[most museums have email address that can be found on their site] you might not find what you are looking for but it gives you another avenue to check out. i have found some information in the most unlikely places at times!! GOOD LUCK

Just a Heads Up for all of you researchers:

I have now had about 7 emails from someone called Norman, who claims to have lots of info on my grandfather - but actually knows nothing. This person is asking for a donation .. clearly a con ... and to me, this is disgusting.

Be warned - not all responses on this site are innocent!

I am upset, disheartened, and completely dismayed by this corruption ... in future, I will be looking elsewhere.

Hi Trebor,
Have you given your email address to someone on this site via a private message (PM).
I would doubt that this site has failed to protect your privacy.
Ask Admin. to look into it. This site would take an incident like this very seriously.

Steve.:) :)

I am happy to report that this thread has now been resolved, and I can confirm that this site was in no way responsible for the emails which I received asking for donations.

Thanks for all your help.

Trebor Anderson

PS
I will try to attach a postcard which has been found amongst family photos - it is from my Grandfather Henry to his daughter Caroline (Lena) .... and is French, bearing the words 'Bonne Annee'

Hi Trebor,
Sorry I dont have any info regarding the above but I do believe we may share a distant relation , Martha Gage who was born Livingston who married Thomas Gage in 1791.
Thomas was my 5x great grandfather and I wonder if I could access your family tree which I believe you have on my heritage.com?
My name is Mark Pollock born Mark McLean and my mother is Margaret Weir Williamson Gage.

My email address

Hi Mark,
Thomas Gage is my third great grandfather - I'd be happy to exchange info with you.
The only sites where I have complete trees are Genes Reunited and my private site on MyFamily.com. The Heritage and Geni sites have restricted my uploads now, so I have abandoned them.

If you need to contact me with your email address you'll have to use the private message facility on this site.

Regards

Trebor Anderson.

Thanks TreborAnderson,
for uploading his MIC, looking at it Henry is a private (37995) but I can't make out his unit ? It does have him in Labour Corps ( 5676) and he was entitled to 2 medal (Victory & British Medals with the roll page numbers.
Just one more thing it doesn't have anything on which theatre of war and the the date entered, so it might look if he never left Britain ? do you have anything on where he was based

P.s I just found out there was no date needed after end of 15 as the dates were qualifying dates for 14/15 star. do you where he was in the war

regards
Braveheart
