Henry Smith born c1817 Glostershire, England. Convicted of Breaking and entering and stealing at Montgomery Quarter Sessions 1839. Occupation: Butcher.
Sentence term: 10 years.
Departure date: 21st November, 1839. Arrival date: 27th April, 1840 New South Wales. Ship Mangles. Recommended Conditional Pardon 1846. Seems to have been moved to TAS. ( Note: originally sent to Norfolk Island, then Tasmania ). Any info of England or Oz welcome. Thanks.henry smithb.jpg

Henry Smith was convicted at Montgomery 1839 for break, enter and steal - a watch and handkerchief. 10yr sentence. Transported to Norfolk Island per the ‘Mangles’, arriving 18/05/1840.

Single; butcher; 5’7 1/4”; aged 26yrs; Protestant; can read & write; fresh complexion; brown hair; grey eyes.
Native place of birth - Warwickshire, Birmingham.
Station Gang: Norfolk Island.
Transferred to Van Diemen’s Land per the ‘Duke of Richmond’, arriving 12/03/1844.
