Thank you very much Elaine.

I'm going to have to copy some bits and highlight them to see if I'm following this correctly.

There shoud be two birth reg for a Wright MORTON but I can only find one ...

Births Mar Qtr 1850
Morton Wright Huddersfield 22 311

... which does not agree with 1 week ? in 1851.

So that reg would be this other one - registered early the following year.

Wright Merton
Birth Date: 31 Dec 1849
Parish: Holmfirth, Holy Trinity
Baptism Date: 5 Sep 1852
Father: John Merton
Mother: Ellen Merton
[Image looks more like Morton than Merton. Occ. Weaver]

re your post #12, the 1851 census is the only reference I can find for Wright Morton aged 1 week.
The birth registered Q1 1850 and the baptism in 1852 are the other Wright Morton.
Possible "your" Wright died shortly after the census, before his birth could be registered. Or maybe he was Ann's son (which I think most likely) and he took the name Stansfield when she married 2 months later though he wasn't registered or baptised as that either. A mystery !
