Possible connection to this one:

The Sydney Morning Herald - Wednesday 26 August 1874 p. 1
MARRIAGES
ADLEM-VICKERS.-August 24, at Christ Church, by the Rev. Edward B. Proctor, Arthur Alfred Adlem, second son of Samuel Adlem, Esq., of Clarence-street, to Ellen Vickers, only daughter of J. Vickers, Esq., 192 Sussex-street.

It does not say Samuel is deceased so if that's not the Samuel who died 7 Jul 1866 aged 40 then we must have 2x Samuel but do we have a death for the 2nd one? Do we have 2 marriages and 2 sets of children?

Ok i found this and it gets confusing

The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954)
Monday 23 July 1866

BEACH—ADLAM—July 7th, Mr. William Beach, aged 23 years ;
also, on the same day, Mr. Samuel Adlam, brother-in-law of the above, thus leaving both sisters widows on the same morning.

So if their deaths on the same day left SISTERS as widows i went looking for their marriages to see what their maiden names were
:eek:Appears to be your Farmer sisters  But then you probably already know this :2fun::2fun::2fun:

266/1864
groom BEACH WILLIAM
Bride FARMER SARAH ANN
District SYDNEY

428/1858
groom ADLEM SAMUEL
bride FARMER EMMA
District SYDNEY

Death for the Samuel 1866
826/1866

AGE 40 YEARS
DIED SYDNEY
SYDNEY

The only other death i could find for a Samuel was this one

11517/1935
ADLAM SAMUEL A
father WILLIAM H
mother SARAH A
districtSYDNEY

Wonder what happened for brother in laws to die the same day  The jolly newspaper didnt say

Oh my, the gossip that would have been going on:eek:

Colonial Times (Hobart, Tas. : 1828 - 1857)
Tuesday 13 September 1853

Thursday, Sept. 8.

drinkwater v. adlem. .

This was an action brought by plaintiff against defendant.for forcibly entering, damaging, and trespassing on his premises on the 2i>th July last. The plaintiff keeps the William IV. in Liverpool street, and was a short time brick sued by his wife for maintenance. It came out in evidence that he had been harbou ing defendant's wife, and it was when searching for his wife that the trespass was Complained of. The Attorney-General and Mr. Crisp were plaintiff's counsel, 'and the former ex- amined three witnesses, Patrick Neill, Cornelius Bream, arid Caleb Bartlett. Mr. Brewer, Counsel for defendant, cross-examined the witnesses. H ream had been dismissed the police force for bribeiy, and Bartlett was one of the men concern- ed in the tea robbery. Mr. Biewer dec ined call- ing »ny witnesses, and in his address to the jury ch iracterized the whole proceeding as contempti-ble, and the evidence a concocted story. The jury after being absent a short time, returned a verdict. for defendant, and speedy judgment was granted.
---------------------------------------------
When i found the article earlier about Harriet been in trouble, she was with in Melbourne and Drinkwater was with her
Only put part of the article below as its quiet large.

Tho prisoner, Harriet Adlam, then placed herself against th j door. Witness tried to pull her away, and as ha was doing so Hanley hit him a furious bloiv o.i the arm with the samo piece of wood, which again felled him to tho ground. They were still in Tasmania in 1855 cause Adlem and Drinkwater had another fight when Adlem caught Harriet and Drinkwater together again, it went to court and they both had to keep the peace for 6 months:rolleyes:

I have them is in Vic in 1859. Well Harriet and Drinkwater, still dont know if the Samuel Adlem in Vic is the same as the one in Tassie yet

William Drinkwater was fined 40s., for dis- orderly conduct in the streets.
Harriet Adlem, charged with being disorderly in the street, was fined 20s.

Guess we're not any further ahead than we were in #1 on here :2fun::2fun:
Thanks for looking. I'm not sure but it sure is interesting stuff. :2fun:

Yes married to my FARMER sisters, but no idea how or why they died the same day.

I could not find the 1868 marriage for Joseph PATE and Eleanor Ann FARMER. Seems he didn't marry at the same church his father and grandfather did. I found those two - 1824 and 1848 St Philip's CofE Sydney.

Well that's one thing we wanted to know. The dates overlap? It's not one travelling back and forth?

The Henry who died in 1926 was 78 so he was born abt 1848 and one author of a tree says he was born in Hobart and that his brother Arthur was born abt 1852 when the family moved to Victoria. Later the family ended up in NSW.

The Samuel who married the FARMER sister died 1866 aged 40 and that almost fits with the 1824 in Hobart.

ADLAM SAMUEL A

mother SARAH A

This one was not born 1824 so when and where? Oh I think the father's names are reversed. That must be Henry William & Sarah A.

Birth 1537/1872 ADLEM SAMUEL A HENRY W SARAH SYDNEY

So if we do have a Samuel in Tasmania and one in Victoria we are still missing a death.

The marriage notice says Arthur is the 2nd son but also seem to suggest father Samuel is still alive so not the one who died 1866. The author of that tree may have made a mistake.

I think Samuel who died 1866 was born abt 1824-1826 and his son is William Henry born Hobart 1848. Arthur may not belong to that family as claimed even though his father is also Samuel. That would mean that Samuel and son William both ended up in Sydney before 1858.

Vic. BMD is off line.

The 8 Feb 1868 marriage was the one I could not find. I searched 5 films for 5 diff CofE churches in central Sydney.

Tree HERE

No birth reg for the first child Joseph Edward. Can't find the birth in TROVE. I want to know the date :2fun: because I think it was before the marriage.

Looks like I'll have to purchase a certificate - just one but which one. :D

This one is probably of no use:

Death 826/1866 ADLEM SAMUEL AGE 40 YEARS DIED SYDNEY SYDNEY

I could not find this marriage either today:

428/1858 ADLEM SAMUEL FARMER EMMA SYDNEY
