I have only just found this site and joined a few minutes ago. I've been trying to make sense of my family history for a few years now and have had a dgree of success in some of the lines. However my own surname is proving illusive.

I am researching the Hughes family. After some time working on what has turned out to be a red herring, I have discovered on the 1911 census that my grandfather John William Hughes was born in Royton Lancashire in 1884 as indicated by his age of 27 in 1911 and aged 21 on his marriage certificate (Goole Yorkshire 1905) his birthday being 10th January. On the marriage certificate his father is given as John (deceased)

Can anyone help to trace his antecedants?

Hi Glynne

Welcome to FHUK.

I only joined a few days ago, and have found this to be the best and most friendly site so far:D

All the members here are so helpful and make you feel at home so quickly, that quickly that you become addicted to the site straight away!!! haven't managed to log off yet!!!

Anyway, I am reasonably new to the family history lark, but like you have had success and a couple of red herrings, but with everyone helping from FHUK, you will soon get it sorted.

Maybe post your query on Genealogy for Beginners section - you might find you get more hits from there.

Good luck and happy researching.

:2fun: :D :2fun:
