Hi, this is a military record question. Can anyone tell me what section 161 of the British Army act says. It must refer to courts marshall. My Great Great Uncle seems to have had a chequered early army career and then seems to have been discharged and re enlisted under another name in 1892. He did go on to serve in the 1914/18 war with a distinguished career as an older soldier and as the new name of James Apsey from Thomas Brewer. The document attached says that he was exempt from trial under section 161. So, my questions are: What does that section of the army act say and what reasons would he re enlist under a different name and even sanctioned by the army?
