Hi,

I am trying to find anyone with connections to the Hickman family in the Brierley Hill area.My great grandfather was Samuel Hickman,a glass blower, who lived in North Street,Brierley Hill.I have traced him on the 1911 census living with the UNDERHILL family at 26 North Street.I belive Annie Underhill nee Hickman was his cousin, with whom he is lodging.Samuel was born c 1881 and his parents were Daniel Hickman and Mary Ann Holden.Other children were David,Susannah,Job,Thomas,Priscilla and John Henry.Daniel Hickman's father was William Hickman, born c 1824 and his mother was Priscilla Plant.

My great grandfather Samuel did not marry my great grandmother, who was Louisa Wilkinson, but had two children by her,Priscilla Wilkinson, born 1901 and my grandmother,Elizabeth Wilkinson born 1905.I found out about Samuel as he is named as 'illegitimate father' on my grandmother's marriage certificate.

I believe the Hickmans are a big family in the Brierley Hill/Brockmoor areas and would be grateful for any contact regarding them.

Many thanks,

Marisan.

Hi Marisan,

Whilst I don't directly have any info for you the best place for you to source a little extra help outside of this forum would be to visit the community forum for the Black Country region.

http://www.Blackcountrygob.com is a great place to ask anything about the Black country as it specialises in ONLY that region unlike many others and has a team of genealogists willing to do free searches for you etc.

I'd take a look and see what comes up.
