West Yorkshire Regiment

Hi all i have just come accross George willie Higginbotham b.1882 in my tree (well i say just,he has been there a while but just descovered he was killed in ww1) His number was 19023 West Yorkshire Regiment.Does anyone know where i would find info on him and his service? I have been told he was "blown to pieces" so would like to know how true this is.
Thanks in advance :)

Hi

The best place to start looking with war time deaths are usually the Commonwealth War Graves Commision site (CWGC) It will often have date of birth, date and place of birth, next of kin and an attractive memorial sheet which is lovely to have in a history file. it should also indicate exactly where the grave or mememorial is situated.

There is a George Willie Higginbotham recorded with the correct service number. The other place to look is in the army service and pension records on line through A..c...y

good luck with the search and ask for more help if you need it
