Hello,

name: Hiram Ball

gender: Male
age: 36
relationship to head of household: Head
birthplace: Golborne, Lancashire
record type: Household
registration district: Leigh

I'd like a look up please for the family in 1861 and 1871.

In 1871 there should be a Simeon BALL born about 1859. (Actually a nephew)

Regards,

Dave

Hello Josie,

Thanks.

Ah. Found one more. Maria age 12 is Simeon's brother. So the last two in 1871 are niece and nephew.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Josie,

Here is the father of Ann, Maria & Simeon with his 2nd spouse:

1871
Civil Parish: Golborne
County: Lancashire
Registration District: Leigh
BALL Simeon head 1820 age 51 Coal Miner Golborne, Lancashire
BALL Betty wife 1817 age 54 Coal Miner's Wife Culcheth, Lancashire
Seems after Simeon, senior remarried the remaining children were farmed out to his brother Hiram or to... ???

Please see if you can find the above census and give me the ref to add. Thanks.

Also one more child not yet found in 1871 (married in 1872 in Bolton)

Sarah BALL b. 1846 Lowton/Golborne (RD Leigh)

Thanks.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Dave!

In 1871, there is a Sarah Ball in Bolton. Born Syrborn? - difficult to read - can't think what it should be!

Her status is "Lodger".

She is 25 and her occupation is Warehouse ? (The ? is scribbled out.)

The other people in the household are

William Ward 28 House painter
Eliza Ward 28
Ellen Strickland 26 cotton doubler

Address: 9 Baldwin Street, Great Bolton

Class: RG10; Piece: 3941; Folio: 59; Page: 51

Best wishes,

Josie

Hi Dave,

There are a few Thomas Pillings living in Lancs in 1871, but I haven't yet found one who exactly fits the bill!

The nearest I can get is a "son" but he was born in 1849!

He is with Ellen Pilling 54, Sarah Jane 18 and Abraham Stansfield 48.

Class: RG10; Piece: 3942; Folio: 77; Page: 18

His address is Lupton Street, Great Bolton and his occupation is iron turner, so probably not the right one.

There is a chance he has been mistranscribed, I suppose!

If you find anything which looks promising, just let me know!

Josie

Hello Josie,

Thanks for looking. All I can add for Thomas is that in 1891 he is a Grocer. :2fun: And one year younger than Sarah.

1901
Civil Parish: Bolton
Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity
Town: Bolton
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Registration district: Bolton
Sub-registration district: Great Bolton
Address: 4, Ormrod Street, Bolton
PILLING, Sarah Head Widow F 55 1846 Golborne Lancashire
HODSON, Mary J Boarder Married F 39 1862 Cotton Yarn Examiner Bolton Lancashire
PILLING, Thos Son Single M 23 1878 Pawn Brokers Assistant Bolton Lancashire
I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not but Sarah's mother is an Ann HODSON. So Mary could be Sarah's niece.

Too many possible marriages for Mary J and too many possible deaths for her spouse even if it is Bolton.

Regards,

Dave
