Historical Black holes Has this happened to you?

It's doing my head in. I'm researching Norton which was a Derbyshire Parish but eventually moved counties as it became part of the city of Sheffield. Histories of Sheffield don't mention it as it was in Derbyshire to the 20th century and histories of Derbyshire don't mention it as it is now in Yorkshire. I wondered if anybody had this happen to them with for instance Manchester where Cheshire villages are now Manchester? It is extremely frustrating as the data is spread across 2 county archives too, plus its in a totally different Bishopric.

All the time DW. And Manchester is my nemisis.
Also I have rellies who lived on the border of Oxfordshire and Bucks.
They got in bed in Buckinghamshire, and got out the other side in Oxfordshire.
And it didn't help when the reg district and the hundred constantly changed.

Bucks and Hertfordshire is also a bit of a problem.

My uncle spent some time in Fiji during the 1940s and was involved once back in Sydney with bringing the first rugby team from Fiji to visit Australia.

My ancestors seemed to flit between the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire borders.

For ages my 3xgreat grandfather seemed to vanish in later life. It took me a couple of years to find out he was thousands of miles away in America. He sent me on a merry dance.

But he is now one of my most favoured ancestors because of his emigration.

I've got plenty of relatives on county boundaries but this family's home has moved county without them moving which makes the problem as no one seems to acknowledge Norton as having a past.

I remember we had similar problem when living in Galloway where our parish moved counties and no one was looking after the road or the graveyard because each county thought it was the other ones concern.
