I have hit a stone wall with tracking information on my ggf William Charles Hoaten who married Mabel Mary Cookson. (I know a fair amount about the Cooksons). As far as I know he came from England, as opposed to Wales, Scotland etc.
From findmypast site I know he came via London to the Cape, south Africa in 1899 , was born in 1874.On Findmypast there is also a W Hoaten (b 187**** and E Hoaten (b 1886) who traveled from Southampton to South Africa (Cape) in 1907. This could possibly be him as well. After coming to South Africa William moved up to Rhodesia where he eventually died after spending a career in the Defense Force there. Getting information out of Zimbabew is almost impossible, so not much chance of getting a copy of his death cert.
On Googling this name I get a lot on Greater Hoaten, but not much on the surname Hoaten.
Any suggestions?
