Home town postcards.

In Ireland, but from Bucks.
I have just recieved a book, which I had purchased off an internet shop whose name begins with 'A'.
I put Princes Risborough, Bucks, in the search box, and up popped a book called "Princes Risborough- In Old Picture Postcards."
It contains approximately 80 picture postcards, with descriptions, of views of my home town.
They range from 1870-1920, and it has made me realise how much the town hasn't changed. The views are put in order of approach from the north of the town, and through it towards the south.
There are also some very old aerial shots and it beats me how they got them.
I recognise some of the names in the photo's from searching the various census entries whilst looking for rellies.
The Goodchilds.- Family of farmers.
Adcock & Sons, Grocers.
The Lion Steam Brewery- Where my Grandfather worked as a drayman.
Dr.Francis Cooper, the father of my family doctor, at the Cross Keys Surgery.
Herbert Hickman Carriers - Who's son my father worked for as a lorry driver.
Jacobs Garage and Bicycle repairs.-Where I bought parts for my bike.
The Workhouse of the Wycombe Poor Law Union.- Which stood in 11 acres of garden and serviced an area of 147 sqr. miles.
Eggletons Bakery.- Which eventually closed in 1966.

Most of these families have and have been living here for centuries. Most of the shops and businesses have been going for 100-200 years.
I mentioned in an earlier post somewhere, The Town farm, in the care of the Woods family. Rupert, John and another brother and sister, whose names I can't remember. There is a quote in this little book which says ".....who bring in the cows for milking regardless of 'the roar of the traffic' !!"
I will treasure this little book.

Steve.:) :)
