Hi everone
i am new to this but here goes
I have been trying to find out about my paternal grandfather and ancestry.
he was called Alfred Hope and was born C1894 but my problem is that I don't know where he was born.
i have his marriage certificate which gives his father's name as John Hope who was deceased. My grandmother was Edith Soley who in service in Hereford. She was from Stoke Edith near ledbury in herefordshire.
Alfred was stationed at Aldershot and so i could not find out where his family were from.
i think he was in the Royal army service corp as a driver.
Can anyone help?

I see you have his marriage certificate. Only just read this. What does he give as his fathers occupation?

Hi Joe,

Had a look in 1901 in the civil parish of Ledbury address Bridge Street theres a Alfred Hope age 8 born Ledbury Herefordshire with Ellen Hope age 36 born Ledbury she is marked as single and Harry Hope age 4 born Ledbury.

Could be a possability.

Oh thanks for taking the time to reply
On the marriage cert it says that John was a General Labourer.
Yes i have seen the entry on the 1901 census but not sure if that's the right one as i can't seem to find a marriage for Ellen.
Alfred suffered shell shock during the war and disappeared from the family home ( in Bosbury) when my dad was about 3 years old. Afew years ago I thought that my dad had said that he may have gone to Worcester. My dad has since passed away so I cannot verify this and my sister says that she can't remember.
On my parents certificate it has Alfred as a House Painter.

I have found clues but no concrete evidence. it's sooo frustrating
