Hi, Can anyone help me find Harold Warner Houston b1886 Birmingham and Jeannie Milne Anderson b1889 Dundee area of Scotland in 1911. I have not been able to find a marriage for them in England, thought they may have got married in Scotland!!! Also Harold's birth cert shows he was Knight - no fathers name given, so he may have used this surname in Scotland.

Would appreciate any help.

This could be him in 1918

That looks the same address as his family in 1911, if I've got it right..

Looks as though he is a soldier.

Midlands, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1955
Name: Harold Houston
Year: 1918
Ward or Division/Constituency: West Birmingham
Street address: 84 Mayfield Place

Scotlands People have Harold Houston married Jeanie Anderson, 1913, Cupar Fife.

Clearly you are looking for two separate people in 1911. There are lots of Jean*** Andersons in the 1911 Scottish census but only one Jeanie Anderson aged 22 in Fife county. There is a Harry Houston aged 26 in Prestonkirk East Lothian.

Sorry I can't check the details but Scotland's People is a pay per view site, if you want to see the entries it is £7 for 30 credits, one credit to see the index and a further 5 each to see the entry for a marriage or a census.

Thank you. The marriage looks promising. Jeannie gave birth in Dundee on 13th July 1913 but no fathers name was given - very strange!!

Thanks again for your help

re "British Army, deserters and absentees in Police Gazette 1914-1919" in post # 8 :- it is one of the data sets in Military, First World War in FMP but there is no further information on Harold other than what I gave.

If you Google "Derby Scheme" you will find out how the scheme that Harold was in worked. It was also known as the "Group Scheme". The heading at the top of the page in the Police Gazette is "Reservists under the Group Scheme who, having failed to report themselves on being called up on Permanent Service are therefore Absentees". From what I can make out a lot of men didn't report in and it's not the same as deserting once you are actually in the army.
