How might I locate my English mother's 1929 birth record when it doesn't seem to exist?

My mother, Jean Allinson (or Allison) was born in England in 1929. A search on ancestry.co.uk finds nothing until her second marriage, to my father, in 1963. Can someone advise me how I might locate her birth record and anything else likely to be available?

Thank you. You located her so quickly. She is long deceased. You've given me something worthwhile, as she didn't tell me much about her family.

William j Allison married in Lily Graham during April -June 1820 in the Darlington area.
The birth of Jean Allison was registered in Darlington in Jan- March 1930.
You can apply to the General Register Office (GRO) for a copy of the marriage certificate which should give you the names of Jean's grandfathers. The reference you need is June quarter 1920 Darlington Volume 10a, page 119..
Even though Jean was born in December 1929, clearly her birth was not registered until after the new year.

Thanks for that. I'd no idea such information was available, being a novice at family research. Strangely, my mother never talked about her childhood. We must have walked past the house she grew up in many times - it's still there - yet she never pointed it out to me.

From Family Search.
William James Allison, born 2 June, baptised 21 June 1897. Gateshead. Parents William James and Margaret.
In 1901 William living with parents, 5 siblings and grandfather, John Clyde in Gateshead. Father born Newcastle O T. Circa 1866, mother born Motherwell, circa 1872. ( I suspect their marriage was in Scotland)

Possible conjecture. All information to be found on Family Search. (Free to view)
In 1901 William Allinson's maternal grandfather is shown as John Clyde, 62, born Tyrone, Ireland - father of Margaret b c 1872, Motherwell, Scotland.
In 1881 John and his wife, Ann, and children, including Margaret, b c 1872, are living in Gateshead. Margaret's place of birth is shown as Ireland!
( such errors not uncommon).
Margaret Clyde, born 28 August 1871. Dalziel, Lanarkshire. Parents John Clyde and Ann McVey. (Dalziel parish includes village of Motherwell). Census taken in the year before Margaret's birthday which accounts for the apparent discrepancy of one year.

Thanks for all of this. It's given me some insight into my mother's background which she never shared with me. I never knew my grandparents, so their deaths before my 1965 birth is entirely likely.

In 1911 William Allison (b1897) is with his father, William James, mother, Margaret, born Motherwell, and 9 siblings living in Gateshead. His father ise recorded as born circa 1864 in Newcastle.

From Family search. William James Allison baptised 16 October 1864. St John, Newcastle. Parents Thomas and Ann.
From GRO Index. William James Allison. Dec Q 1864. Newcastle Upon Tyne. Mmn Watson
From Free BMD. The names Thomas Allison and Ann Watson on same page of marriage register December Q 1855. Newcastle upon Tyne. ( Not proof that married each other but highly likely.)

This is conjecture, not proof, but probable.
