Ellie,

First up thank you kindly, for doing a wee bit of hunting for the rellies...
You have found a new name within the Bowens.... ( Laura Jane ) Ive not seen or heard of her before. May I ask did the source give a place of birth and age and the father ?

Born Wales may not be accurate as other info says England.

Did Charles arrive alone at that age?

.[/QUOTE

I have never been told of Charles father or mother being in Australia. So I think Charles did come on his own some how from somewhere

I personally wouldn't want to rule out Wales just in case it is correct tho...

If i't's not Bowen then what is it ?

I can't make it out to say yay or nay
It does not look like Bowen to me. I can't say what it is though. There seems to be a letter in the middle where 'w' would be that looks life 'f' or 'p' with a bit above and below the other letters.

I've been studying it most of the day I've gone skelly-eyed :2fun:
and still not sure now....
Every Bowen /Brown written on the document looks different :(
I'm off to the olds for a week, I'm gonna get my hands on the original again and have another look at it.... I'm looking at a scanned copy, maybe the original will give more detail ....

Age at death may be a bit out and he may have arrived without parents but at a slightly older age.

Nothing found that gives more weight to Wales or England.

It's 1891 but gives an idea of distribution of the Bowen name

Dave,

Thank you for giving it a good try, Leave it with me I want to look at the original Marriage document again and see if it helps.

I thought he might have been a little easier to find with all those middle names, but not to be.... not to worry...
Will keep my fingers crossed .:)

Hello again,

With regards "Bowen"surname on photo copy marriage certificate not being legible, we did a visit to the olds, but they only had same copy ..... so still could not verify .... So we went to the Kapunda Library, they had the original registrars locked in a cupboard... we were not allowed to copy of photograph them, but was able to confirm that Charles William Benjamin Bowens father is definitely George BOWEN.
