Hello all

I have just joined and hoping someone can help.

My daughter brought home her summer holiday topic earlier this week and part of it is to draw a family tree

I’ve had a look online and found lots of templates but my situation is quite complicated and none of the ones I have found really work.

Is there a way to show children from different relationships? And how do you show single parent families (where the child’s father isn’t included)?

Any help would be great

Thanks
Rachel

Is it your daughters family tree, or a family tree in general. Does she need to include herself, or could she start with an earlier family member, say a Grandparent.

There are plenty of online trees, that are filled....could you use one of those to give you ideas, instead of templates.

The father issue is one that it personal to the tree owner. Whether to exclude the father will leave a gaping hole......half a tree in essence. If included, it would be more complete.

My Great Grandmother was father 'unknown', so you would then have to go back with the maternal line, with no paternal line available.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the reply. She wants to do it as her family tree starting with her.

I dont want to go into too much personal detail on a piblic forum but I have 5 children - but she is the only child I have with her father. So the first thing I don’t know how to do is show my other 4 children. Her dad now has other children so she has half siblings on his side to show too.

Thanks, Rachel

To keep things simple, just include herself, you and her father and not her other siblings, nor her fathers other children, if that's possible.

I'm sure her school should be okay with that. But if it's not, then the school need to rethink their project choice.
Not everyone on this planet has a straight forward family tree, and perhaps the school never realised the possible embrassment or problems with this type of project.

Perhaps you could call the school to clarify these, or any possible problems that may occur.

On a personal level, I think this may have been the wrong choice of project by the school.
