Hi Gill,
Hope this helps:

Isle of Man BMD's:
  • Birth records start in 1849, though it was 1878 before compulsory registration began
  • Marriage records start in 1849 and became compulsory in 1884

Isle of Man General Registry Records are kept at the Isle of Man General Registry:

Isle of Man, IM1 3AR
Telephone number: +44 (0) 16 2468 7039
Society of Genealogists Indexes to Anglican marriages only are also available at the:

Can you give a few persons whom you wish to trace in the IOM.
I only have 3 books from the IOM FHS, but have found them invaluable in my research of my surname Wade.

I know that there are researchers who randomly check a local internet site to assist people.

Either Guestbook or reunion.

best wishes,

Hi Dave & Manxy,
Many thanks for your help on the subject of IOM BMDs. It is strange that they were never added to the Free BMD site as IOM is part of England.
I will certainly write to registry office on IOM to see if they can provide the info I need.
Thanks again.
