How to save on research?

Hi! Is there any way to save on ancestry research and not buy subscriptions on websites like ancestry? I'm on a tight budget and I live in a small town with a small archive and clearly the information it provides is not sufficient. One more question is is it really worth buying a DNA test like many articles state and what's the average price?
Any advice is highly appreciated!

In Ireland, but born Bucks.
DNA kits give results that are far from reasonable, and varying results. It's pot luck really, whichever you choose. You'll get a far range of endorsements from anyone who done one. Join Ancestry and FMP on FaceBook, if you use it.

Ancestry is available at Libraries. Contact you nearest Library first, to see if they have it. The Library will more than likely charge a fee for usage.

You could sign for a Ancestry Freebie for 2 weeks. BUT, you will have to register using a debit or Credit card. If you don't cancel before the 2 weeks are up, you're account will be live, as they'll take the cash from your card that's registered.
If you register with Ancestry, make sure you've had a good start with what you've already have before signing up, then research that, and really go at it for 12 days or so, then CANCEL.

There free web sites that you can use, like FamilySearch, FreeBMD. There are others that our members use. Hopefully they'll chip in and let you know which. There is also Lancashire Online Parish Clerk. https://www.lan-opc.org.uk/

It depends where your interests lie, in what county of the UK, or abroad.
