I'm seeking information about Hugh MORWICK born about 1823 Orkney - parents Hugh & Elizabeth SCARTHE

This is a copy of a marriage entry:

I don't know when he arrived in Australia or if he travelled with any family.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With the marriage on 9 Dec 1854 it either had to be in Qld. or on board the vessel??

Thank you for that info. I don't know the names of any of his siblings not the parish where he was born. I may be able to find the latter.

In the 1851 census Hugh is not listed with daughter Margaret so that one looks like a lodger.

His age in the 1861 one fits perfectly.

I've checked the MARWICK and can't find a Hugh with mother Elizabeth Scarthe (including variations). This is the closest:

Every reference I find for Hugh as a ship's Master has MORWICK but that is not to say his parents may not have been MARWICK as that is more common in Orkney.

This one is turning out to be a real puzzle. The marriage says is was in NSW but I can't find the registration of the marriage anywhere in Australia and I can't find the birth of two children either.

Thanks. I didn't know. I knew Elizabeth died in 1901 but I had not looked for Hugh getting married again at age 70! He died in 1906 and it looks as though his 2nd spouse died in 1932:

18618/1932 MORWICK ELIZABETH L THOMAS A MARTHA PETERSHAM

This one is too far out on a limb to spend money on. The few certificates I can afford will have to be BARRACLOUGH or ANGEL or LEWTON - actual GG or GGG grandparents.

It is MARWICK which is more common in Orkney. And it is SCARTH not SCARTHE.
