Hi ,
I was so tempted to say I would ask my son when he is going to finally move out, but I guess thats not what you had in mind, so, I would ask my grandad what name he used to enlist as an underage soldier in the first world war. I believe it to be a corruption of his proper name, either Worden , Warden etc, but have had no luck in tracking it down. Bet you get a few good responses to this one, oh and a quick thanks too julie for all the help and assistance you give everyone, best wishes

I would like to go back to the early 1900's (1910 to 1912) to ask - or to find out what happened to John William Hallam and Ada Woolley - They just went missing! The sons were brought up by different parts of the family.

you got a bit of a brickwall then? I was like that with my Gt Gran, (Susanna Eleanor Wood) had her on the 1891 cens with her hubby and child and poof! she was no-where to be seen on the 1901. Found her hubby with another woman, and her son was with her parents. So ok, she has died, NO DEATH RECORD. ok, she re-married, NO not that either.

so I orders his second marriage cert, sure enough, it says widow. still no death record though,

wasnt unravelled till I went to the archives and searched the cemetery records for the council run cemetery, and found an ELLEN Wood, died 1891 nov. got the cert and it was her!! Still not found out what happened to the baby though (presuming there was a baby, due to the nature of the cause of death)

I would love to find out what happened to my 4x great aunt, Ann Ayre Davenport. I have her on the 1841 census, and the 1851 and 1861. I have her birth certificate and she was a witness at two weddings in the 1860s but then just vanished.


I would also like to ask my Walter Timms where he was from. All I know was he was born c1732 and his marriage says "Of Greasley" but haven't been able to find anything for him.


Photographs are what makes it for me and I like being able to put faces to names, so I might go and ask one of them to make sure they put the names of people (and dates of birth etc) on the backs of photographs and put them in a certain museum that I could then see them at.

You would have a problem with that Tom for your ancestors before 1890 (Yes I know the Photo was "invented" in 1826 - tho not in any form we would know till 1890's).

Yes Julie, like you I have checked every where. I could understand one going missing but both!... I have even sat for hours at Ilkeston Library reading all the newspapers for god knows how many years, without any success!

I have lots of photos from before 1890 and have seen lots before then.

They came about (on card) from the 1860s onwards, and before that they were on glass negatives.

Hi I would like to ask my husbands Great Grandparents (Adolphus Bull and Annie Davies) who lived in the Paddington area of London if they were ever married as so far I have not been able to trace a marriage for them.

I would also like to find out about my Irish ancestors. My Great Great Grandmother was a Mary Murphy father given as Thomas on her marriage certificate It just says born Ireland on all the census's. Mary married my Great Great Grandfather William Oldnall on May 20th 1855 in Chaddesley Corbett Worc. I went and visited the village only a few weeks ago.

Mine would be to ask my G G Grandfather John Smurthwaite about his parents. His marriage cert names his father but I think he may have been illigitimate (sorry John if i'm mistaken!).

I would ask my ggggrandfather all his London residences inbetween the 1851 census and his March 1856 marriage. In 1851 he was in Westminster, and in 1856 he was in Hackney, two complete opposite sides of London. His future wife lived in Clerkenwell in 1851.

It would be nice to try and determine how long he stayed in Westminster as he was a lodger in the 1851 census at 14 Dacre Street, near Scotland Yard. I wonder where he was in 1852, 1853, 1854 and 1855 when he was in his mid 20s.

Yes I could try custodial records

If he was a lodger in 1851 then any rent agreements were private contracts between him and the occupier. Local newspapers for London may help. I reckon he lived in Westminster until he wed in Hackney in early 1856.
