Yes I could try custodial records:)

If he was a lodger in 1851 then any rent agreements were private contracts between him and the occupier. Local newspapers for London may help. I reckon he lived in Westminster until he wed in Hackney in early 1856.

Hi Ben, What was his job/trade in the 1851 census. Could this have an effect on his mobility.

He was a printer in 1851. He was in that trade all of his life.

I need to try and find Westminster 1851 printers workshops.

His 1856 marriage residence of Grove Passage in Hackney had a printing workshop down there owned by Charles Green. I think they only lived in Hackney for a couple of months when they wed as several of Clara's family had done.

If he wed his brothers sister in law in March 1856 in Hackney then they probably began dating in around 1854 or 1855. Clara was 20 in December 1855.

In the 1851 census Clara was living with Williams older brother.
