Hi new to the forum and indeed to researching family history, can anyone help I am trying to find out if their is some data base of indenture papers in years gone by. My wife’s father was an apprentice engineer and would have received his indentures at some time we think in 1951. I am after the actual date he qualified. I doubt there would be copies but there should be an entry somewhere? I live in Somerset anybody have any thoughts?

I think you will need more information - what trade was he in?

Most databases containing indenture records are from when there was duty paid on them. If the trade had a trade body then they may have records but you need to have the relevant information to do a search etc

He was an centre Lathe turner in a local engineering company which still exists but does not have records that far back, hadn't thought about trade bodies but definitely worth a look. We know all his personal details as he only died recently but had dementia for a long while. thanks for all the help so far

Hello I hope you will not mind me pushing in on your messages but your answers might help me. I would like to find my husbands indentures. He was a panel beater / paint sprayer. Does anyone know where I might find them. I am new to the forum and am sorry if I have done wrong. I only joined about 3 hours ago and found this message whilst having a look around. regards to all BJD
