found a medal index card for him on ancestry, (millitary records are free to view there for the rest of this month), doesn't help with learning about his death, but might be of interest nevertheless http://content.ancestry.co.uk/brows...&pid=3955776&ssrc=&fn=Miles&ln=Jefferson&st=g
I also found a record of him on the commonwealth war graves commission site
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=559659 , which includes details of where he was buried.

Jon
hi jon,i have just been lookin at the cwg site and have noted down the place of burial, unfortunatly the MID doesn't tell me anything i didnt know but thanks for looking.I was hoping someone would know the battle's on or around 17/10/1917 that the 51st were involved in,also if there is any way to find out if he was in a diffrent battalion and moved in to the 51st as the 50th was the northumberland and area and the 51st was a scottish battalion.
