it took me years to find out what happened to Thomas Adamson, and it was solved by a lady on Selby Facebook who happens to work in York.I had jumped to the wrong conclusion.I had a Thomas Adamson in Selby in 1828 Leeds paper losing an arm.He was leaning on a Bollard while smoking his pipe when the battering ram came down on his arm ,and it was amputated at the shoulder. There were 2 Thomas Adamsons in the picture,Thomas born 1764 and his son born c1788.As Thomas senior died 1848 i took it that it was his son that lost an arm as i could not find a death for him.Well as you see his son died at sea in a storm while fixing the mast of his ship. Only reference to Selby was in the paper report.
