Hi All,

My name is Mick, I'm 39, born in Leyland, Lancs, but have lived in Nottingham for nearly 15 years now. I have 2 sons, and work as a projec co-ordinator on a young person's social inclusion programme. I love sport, and socialising, and over the last 10 years, have started to collect football memorabilia.

I have wanted to find out more about my family hisory for some time, particularly my family from Notts/Derby. I was never very close to my family, and always had a feeling that I might be adopted, and I suppose this was one way of finding out if that is true. As well as wanting to know about my family for myself, I really want my sons to know all about their family, hence me starting my search. Any ideas to help me along the way would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mick.

Hi
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I must be one of the oldest new members, all my children are now mothers, and the wife and I have some great and loving grandchildren, I always incourage the older ones to ask us and any relatives questons about who their parents and grand parents were, as I am worried they may leave it to late, as I did, my parents died before I became interested in family research, and I feel I have lost a lot of information that would have been of great help to me, but maybe getting on to this site, someone will leave chalk marks in this family maze I find myself in :) so I can find the exit to my past.

Regards to all
Danboy

Hello Rosemary, I believe you are also looking into the Dorset Govers. My patenal grandmother was a Gover from Wareham in Dorset. I have some information regarding her family. My grandmother was called Hyacinth Daisy. Do you think there is a connection here?
Hi
I am a keen enthusiast in the research of my family history.
Once the bug gets you its hard to let go.
Working in the health service on the wards since 1988. Am married to Les with 2 grown up sons. I spend hours searching the internet for any records often forgetting the time if I get a lead.
I was born in Dorset althought the paternal side of my family Ford were all born in or around 5 miles of West/East Meon,Privet, West Tisted, Warnford,Petersfield Hampshire.
I found I knew nothing about my parents after their deaths or their backgrounds. So the search began. I am a member of Ancestry but still records do no exist with them to help me with my brick wall.
My paternal gran born Eliza Wild 1885 Fernhurst, father Joseph, and my maternal great gran Mary Wheatley born 1861, father John, Wellingborough, Northants who married Smith.
I have contacted many who have helped me in my search, but the brick wall continue even with the paid help of the record offices.
Have got Hampshire interests also in Greentrees, Pulingers, Tostefine, Holts.
Dorset Govers.

Hi new to the forum and from Northern Ireland .Need advice re researching my mothers adoption certificate which I recently obtained to find out her birth mothers name.My mother died 5 years ago I know her dob and her adoption date but have been told both by adoption society and general registry office that only the adopted person can have that info. I vaguely remember her telling me her birth name and think it was Montgomery but am unsure.Would like to find out more as I now have grandchildren and want to be able to complete a full family tree.Any advice would be much appreciated.:)

Hi
My family is from Coventry (parents/grandparents) then great grandparents in Chopwell - Durham, Whittlebury - Northants, Newry, Ireland, Edgeware - Middlesx, West Derby -Liverpool (possibly). Further back Whitehaven-Cumberland and then Ireland - not sure yet!
I joined this about a week ago and am hooked. I'm interested and so is my Dad who didn't know anything about his uncles/aunties etc so hope to find out some history for him.
You've already helped me massively, so thank you! I have spent a fair amount on credits for ancestry.com and wonder if there is a good site like that to join, eg genes reunited or similar, so any advice on that would be helpful
thanks
Denise

Hi, I'm Karen from NZ/Kiwiland

My mothers father emigrated to NZ in the early 1900's as a young man from Oxford and so she never knew much about his family, although did write to a cousin. As she says, she was young and as the relatives were on the other side of the world it didn't mean much as she didn't know them.

I went to Oxford recently when I was touring Britain and found helpful information about my great grandfather, the places he was associated with and his gravesite. I'd love to find further family connections but it all seems quite daunting. I am hoping this site may help me with this branch of the family.

Karen
