Hello all, my name is Kaye and I live in Essex with my husband although I originally come from Yorkshire. I have been researching my own and my husbands family trees and have recently discovered my x3 great grandmother residing in Northallerton Prison in 1891! Has anyone got any ideas how I can find out what she was imprisoned for?

Hi Joy
Thanks for the info and also the link. I managed to track a little more when I became a monthly subscriber to Ancestry rather than a pay per view! I don't know if they do that on purpose or not.
I have been really busy the last month and managed to collect alot more info. Trouble is now, I will have to search parish records because some of the ancestors were born and married before census returns started. Another problem I have that is time consuming is that I don't really know alot of the areas so am having to double check districts, towns etc to make sure my info is correct. Plus I have discovered some boundaries moved etc - Oh why did Mum and Dad emigrate? !!!

welcome Hi Karen - have you joined your local family history society? I think you'd find them very helpful and useful. The person that has collected the most research for my husband's family roots (in Essex) is Australian and has done nearly all her reasearch from there - and also my local 'Online Parish Clerk', for Alcester (in Warwickshire), lives in New Zealand! Don't be put off by the distance - you'll find a lot of copied archival information is available for you over there.

For your curent brick wall, try this Warwickshire researchers website and scroll down to Rugby: http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/opc/opc.html#R

I hope this helps & wish you all the best with your research.

Kind regards - Joy

Hi my name is Sara-Patricia. I have been doing family tree for some time. I like to help people and enjoy doing so.

My parents went to England in search of their roots. They found that they were related to the people who owned Bydown House, Kerscott and Dennington as well as a place called Tordown.

We are related to Rev (Jack) John Russell. He bred the dogs Jack Russells. Penelope Bury his wife is related to us through a cousin.

I am willing and able to help anyone who has relatives who passed away in the London Middlesex Ontario area please send me your information and I will look them up for you.
Cheers Sara-Patricia Carson

Hi, my name is Pauline and I am 68 years old. I have been researching my and my husband's families for quite a while, but when I started it was a matter of visiting records offices, SOG, Family History Centres etc. Now it is so much easier with the WWW and so many people on various genealogical sites who are so willing to help. Now that I am disabled, and unable to get around to these places, I rely on buying FH CDs and microfiche, and on-line sources, together with the goodwill of other posters.

My earliest record is c. 1490 (de la Zouche) but I have many brick walls that I hope to knock down in due course. My only FH 'claim to fame' is the baptism registration of one of the family next to that of William Shakespeare!

Happy Hunting to everyone

Hi
I am a keen enthusiast in the research of my family history.
Once the bug gets you its hard to let go.
Working in the health service on the wards since 1988. Am married to Les with 2 grown up sons. I spend hours searching the internet for any records often forgetting the time if I get a lead.
I was born in Dorset althought the paternal side of my family Ford were all born in or around 5 miles of West/East Meon,Privet, West Tisted, Warnford,Petersfield Hampshire.
I found I knew nothing about my parents after their deaths or their backgrounds. So the search began. I am a member of Ancestry but still records do no exist with them to help me with my brick wall.
My paternal gran born Eliza Wild 1885 Fernhurst, father Joseph, and my maternal great gran Mary Wheatley born 1861, father John, Wellingborough, Northants who married Smith.
I have contacted many who have helped me in my search, but the brick wall continue even with the paid help of the record offices.
Have got Hampshire interests also in Greentrees, Pulingers, Tostefine, Holts.
Dorset Govers.

Hi I found this site when using the search engines to try and break down one of my brick walls Harold King who was a Captain in the RAMC. Thought the site looked really good so decided to join.

I have been researching my family for just nine months and thanks to this modern technology called the computer have managed to to build a fairly good picture of my family without leaving the house.

I have been married for 22 years and have four children ranging in age from nineteen down to six. I work full time as a team manager at a motorway service station and have been there for more than nine years.

My family say I am obsessed with this family research but I get such a buzz with every new piece of info that I find that they are probably right. Housework has become a thing of the past.

I am really looking forward to moving around this site and getting to know what I can do as I get as much enjoyment in finding info for others as I do when others are able to help me.

I am researching the following CLARK in Middlesex mainly St Pancras and Tottenham. MOORE in Norfolk St Pancras and Tottenham. RUDD and TWITE in Norfolk. HANNIGAN in Limerick Ireland CABLE in Essex ADAMS in Norfolk/Suffolk(still working on that one) and KING from who knows where but married in Suffolk

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year:cool:
