Without any fanfare, the LDS Family Search website added a searchable, and free, database of the Irish civil registration indexes on 23 January. It's a pilot site, so it's still being tested and it's a little temperamental, but it's going to make a huge difference to Irish genealogy research once its teething problems are sorted.

Civil registration in Ireland started with marriages in 1845. Births and deaths started in 1864. This database contains records from those dates for all 32 counties until 1921. From 1922 to 1958, only records for the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland are included.

Enjoy! http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347.

Thanks Siobhan,
I have a feeling I might need that in the next couple of months. I will wait till all the gremlins have been worked out. I'm in no rush at the moment.

Thanks again. Steve.:)

Hi Everyone,
Siobahn, what a Gem of a find. Thanks ever so much for sharing it.
I have just been on & in a matter of minutes I found a Birth Record i"d been unable to find anywhere, one reason being because of either the poor spelling of a Census Collector I had been looking in the wrong place entirely!
Thanks again Siobahn I"ve added the Site into my list of Favourites & will definately be using it again.
Happy Hunting All,
Best Wishes Littlemo
