Hi

I have several ancestors who came from Durham, Yorkshire Dales and my Scottish 5xgreat grandfather John Stewart moved to Durham in c1760ish.

I have read that a lot of Irish Norse inhabited these areas of England in the 9th and 10th centuries onwards. Apparently some of my family surnames such as Hodgson and Dickson have Irish connections.

Hodgson is Irish Norse I have read. Dickson is Pictish where a lot of Picts married Irish wives. Also, the area in North West Yorkshire, Dentdale where my Mason ancestors originated was inhabited by Irish Norse.

No doubt most of my Nothern ancestors and Scottish ones have Irish heritage if I go back far enough. I must have lots of distant Irish in me.

Ben
