Is this a coincidence.

Some 27 years ago, I had the misfortune to lose a child through a genetic bone disease. I was told at the time, my wife and I were related in the past.

Today I have been trying to trace my 2 daughters Gt.Gt. Grandparents.
They were told that in the past, their relatives had invented a machine for spinning cotton, which apparently revolutionised the cotton industry.

Samuel Crompton (the inventor) married a woman by the name of Mary Pimlott in Bolton, Lancashire.
If the descendants of Samuel ended up in London (my ex-mother-in law was a Crompton, and born in London) the genetic trail was half way there.

Now here's the coincidence (or is it).

My 3x Grandmother was Mary Pimlott, and lived not far from Bolton.
Her descendants moved down to Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.

These two Mary Pimlotts could be connected.

My ex-in laws moved out of London to Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, the same town that my maternal side eventually move to.

That is where I met my then wife to be.

Is this a coincidence that the 'Pimlott Gene' came together with me and my ex-wife.

I hope you can follow this story, but if proven would answer a big question.

I'd be up for it, not sure about the ex. Yes she is alive. Would have to find out more to see if it would be worthwhile, and if it could be determined.
I would want 100% outcome, anything less would not convince me.

I think we would need more exemplar's from other rellies to find out.

No need to feel awkward, this is family history.:biggrin:

If you've read the this thread from the start, then this will make sense. Maybe.

I have just found a marriage for Martha Pimlott in 1862.

Bride- Martha Pimlott. Father, Joseph Graham.(my maternal Gt.Gt.Grandfather).
Groom - James Holt. Father, Peter Holt.

Samuel Crompton 1753(the inventor) mothers maiden name was Elizabeth Holt.

Athough this marriage is not part of my 'blood line', it still adds to this 'coincidence'.

There probably were a few marriages between relatives. It certainly seems that way. It is a funny coincidence otherwise. Sometimes you have to use the word "coincidence" to help eliminate theories. It does help at times.

Hi Ben,

These 'coincidences' are also intriguing. Theories and coincidences are all we have to go on sometimes.
It would be good if this works out, but I'm not holding my breath. It is fascinating though.
But this is how genetic anomalies occur. Two families from the same area, then drift off to different areas of the country, only to join up again 120 or so years later, in total ignorance of the genetic link.

Yes I think interbreeding can cause genetic disorders. That is why incest is now banned.

I think if we go back hundreds of years then we will no doubt find marriages between distant or closer relatives such as cousins, second cousins etc.
