I have in my tree a predicament....

Richard Robertson/Robinson marries Sarah Watchorn in 1818 in Melton Mowbray, he a widow (and a Miller) she a spinster they have children together, and he dies in 1840  (Sarah subequently dies in 1860) I have certs for both deaths. His children (4 Girls) I have tracked and they seem to either die early or be elusive in finding their deaths.

From the PR's Richards marriage to Sarah states he was 'Of Waltham' however I have checked Waltham on the wolds pr's and his birth isnt there OR even his first marriage.

I have been stuck at this point for a while now, his age at death was 52 which gives a rough DOB as 1788.

Today I recieved my leicestershire marriage cd :)

whilst having a nosey through it, I found a marriage (well several, but were way too early..) this one, sorta fits the bill.

Richard Robinson p. of St. Mary Nottm, & Elizabeth Newby in Hoby in 1809.

now am I reading too much into this? could he be my Richard? (as he would be 21 when married in 1809.)

ooooooo I think I'm onto something here....

I have had a nosey on Hugh Wallis' site, and done a search for Richard born 1788 and found a bapt in Epperstone in 1787 :)

Epperstone is only a matter of about 5 miles from Nottingham (if that)!

I wonder IF this wall at last is crumbling?

It does indeed seem very hopeful, fingers crossed. you will have to let us know one way or the other. It is inspirational for all of us. Who knows... one day..... our walls may crumble too! :)

Well,

after much searching and pondering I'm now very unsure as to whether this Richard is MY Richard. I knew it all seemed to good to be true.... Drat!

I found that Richard bapt Epperstone had siblings and went thro the census last night searching for him/them. I left Richard till last, now this Richard I think married a Hannah, at nearby Woodborough.

BUT I need to find:

Richard Robinson p. of St. Mary Nottm, & Elizabeth Newby in Hoby in 1809.

I guess I could look for a a death for Elizabeth, which might help.. hmmmn

Julie,

Get a copy of his marriage to Sarah (I think you already have one don't you?) and then get a copy of this marriage that was in 1809 and compare the signatures.

Have you had a look for any children between Richard and the 1809 wife?

and no I didnt I don't think I found anything, but a second look would be good if you are offering :D as I know how you LOVE the chase. :p :p

LOL Julie :D

The IGI is playing up for me at the moment, but will have a look as soon as it is working again :)

Hi I found 2 Elizabeth Robinsons both buried at St Mary Nottingham the first was buried 3/6/1810 & the 2nd 29/10/1811. I could be reading too much into this, but would it fit? it was the St Marys that I noticed first. I got this info from findmypast in the NBIndex. lets hope it sheds a bit of light on these Robinsons. :)
