gender: Male

Hello Julie, Ozn & dave,

Thank you very much.

I started with no parents, no birth date or place and no death for Jane.

I had a marriage and by chance not knowing what religion or what church found a copy of the parish register on film. That gave me Jane's age in 1863 and her parents. Yes, an error in the index with James for Jane.

Marriage # 1862/1863 NEWBERY FREDERICK THOMAS - BEARDMORE JAMES - GOULBURN

3 March 1863 Wesleyan Chapel Goulburn
Frederick Thomas Newbery Bachelor NSW - Land Surveyor 24 yrs Goulburn Goulburn - Frederick William Newbery - Sarah Brown - Tailor
Jane Beardmore Spinster England -- 22 yrs Goulburn Goulburn - Isaac Beardmore - Margaret Borrowman - Farmer
Both signed and Witnesses signed (can't read the names)
By me Benjamin Chapman Wesleyan Minister

I can't see a birth reg for Jane. I have not found any of them in shipping records, either way. I still have no death for Jane or her spouse. I can see no births or deaths in Qld. or NSW for children of Frederick & Jane. I've even looked in England to see if they may have gone there after they married. I have not found a death for Isaac or Margaret either.

Regards,

Dave

Found this although census has not born in county. Can't find his marriage to Mary. I think I have more than my fair share of Non-conformists with names like Caleb, Daniel, Isaac, Jabez, Josiah, Joshua.

name: Jabez Beardsmore
event type: Birth
birth date: 17 Feb 1781
birthplace: Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire
christening date:
christening place:
marriage date:
marriage place:
death date:
death place:
burial date:
burial place:
father's name: Isaac Beardsmore
mother's name: Elizabeth Beardsmore
record set: RG4_3603

Found these:

Deaths Jun 1854
Beardsmore Isaac Basford 7b 97

Deaths Mar 1865
BEARDSMORE Jabez Basford 7b 99

Deaths Jun 1878
BEARDSMORE Margaret 66 Basford 7b 110

Hello cp,

Good news. The marriage has been found. :D

It was not in Adelaide although two children were born in Adelaide in 1850 and 1851.

It was in the expected place Goulburn but I can't find it in the index.

Wesleyan Marriages in the Goulburn Circuit
Frederick William Newbery
Mary Ann Furner
10 Jun 1848 at Goulburn by William Lightbody
Witnesses: Philip Steer of Goulburn, Charles Furner of Goulburn

Dave

Hello Josie,

Thank you very much.

I've looked again since the shipping records are free for a week to view and I still can't find Jane's arrival. I presume she came alone as an assisted immigrant not long before her marriage 3 Mar 1863. I've tried all variations I can think of - Beer*, Bear*

This is an interesting marriage:

770/1864 BEARDMORE ISAIAH - MALTBY EMMA - SYDNEY

Jabez is probably not down as such.

Regards,

Dave

Hello Josie,

Thank you very much.

Some parts of Basford RD are in Derbyshire but not Nuthall.

I can't find a death in NSW for Isaiah or any variation.

I presume Jane arrived in Australia before the 1861 census.

Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,

I've had a look at the shipping records, on A, but they all seem to be concerning arrivals in the USA! Maybe I'm doing something wrong!

Hello Josie,

I find the indexes on that site are a pain to use. They default to all sorts of strange settings. Even if you choose exact for surname it will revert to default.

If you choose Passenger Lists from the Immigration heading then you get a choice of the NSW or Qld. but they don't seem to be any different than going to the actual sites on the Qld. or NSW archives web sites.

Regards,

Dave
